The 'A Star Is Born' actress is reportedly in early negotiations to portray Harley Quinn in the sequel, which title was revealed by director Todd Phillips earlier this month.

AceShowbiz - Joker is likely to get an A-list partner in crime when he returns to big screen. Lady GaGa is reported to be in early talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel, which reportedly could also be a musical.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the awards-winning singer/actress is in negotiations to portray Harley Quinn, Joker's psychiatrist at the mental institution known as Arkham Asylum, who later falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick.

Margot Robbie has famously played the character in 2016's "Suicide Squad" that earned the character a solo movie, 2020's "Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn", before she reprised the role in 2021's "The Suicide Squad". However, this new Quinn exists in a different DC universe than Robbie's version of Quinn.

As for the musical plan, the details are still scarce. However, Todd Phillips, who directed the first movie, is no stranger to musical film, having produced "A Star Is Born", which earned eight Oscar nominations, including a Best Actress nomination for GaGa, and won one of them for Best Original Song.

Earlier this month, Phillips, teased the sequel via Instagram. He shared a cover of the script which revealed the project's title "Joker: Folie a Deux". He also posted a picture of Phoenix reading the screenplay while smoking a cigarette, seemingly confirming the actor's involvement in the upcoming movie. Despite the photo, according to THR's sources, the deal with the 47-year-old Academy Award-winning actor has not been sealed just yet.

GaGa most recently starred in Ridley Scott's biographical crime film "House of Gucci". Though the movie earned mixed reviews, critics praised the "Born This Way" singer's performance as Patrizia Reggiani. The role earned her the New York Film Critics Circle Award, and nominations for the BAFTA Award, Critics' Choice Award, Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress.
