AceShowbiz - While the majority of the Kardashian-Jenner family are excited about Kourtney Kardashian's engagement to Travis Barker, her daughter apparently begged to differ. In the latest episode of "The Kardashians", Penelope Disick could be seen dissolving in tears upon learning about her mom's new relationship status.
The Thursday, May 5 episode of "The Kardashians" unraveled Travis' proposal to Kourtney. Afterward, Kourtney was seen calling her children who were not present during the romantic moment. She first called her daughter Penelope. However, as soon as she broke the news, her 9-year-old girl cried and said, "Hang up!" before ending the call.
During a confession for the episode, Kourtney explained the situation in details. "Penelope took it hard," she admitted, "I think it's a big change for her. Even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn't know what this means. Like, is that taking me away? I think she just doesn't know what it means."
While her phone call with her daughter did not go according to plan, the Poosh founder moved on to call her youngest, Reign. Her young boy did not shed any tears. However, he called the news "not exciting." As for how her eldest, Mason, took in the news, it was unraveled that he did not answer the phone.
Seeing how her children reacted to her engagement upset Kourtney. "I do wish that my kids were here," the 43-year-old reality star confessed, "I think it would've made them feel more included in the decision, kind of, and part of the surprise. I know that my mom made the decision and it probably wasn't her best."
It turned out that it was Kourtney's mother, Kris Jenner, who decided not to include the children in the surprise proposal. "For us to have to lie to [Scott Disick] and get them here under false pretenses would've been really hard for all of us," the momager explained, "This is the right thing to do. [Travis'] kids are all adults, basically. That's the way I feel about it."
Kourtney still had a hard time accepting her children's reactions, but her sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kim Kardashian comforted her by saying that her children were not mad at her. "They need to process it in their own way," Khloe assured, "I think they think they're losing their dad."
"I don't think they think they're losing their mom, they think their dad is gone and you're replacing him," the youngest Kardashian sister went on explaining, "When you're a kid you think you have to pick one, so P's reaction is understandably okay. But there's nothing wrong with Travis. It's the same way you felt about Bruce."
Kourtney agreed as she recalled that she was also able to accept Bruce Jenner, who is now known as Caitlyn Jenner, as her stepdad after her dad Robert Kardashian accepted Bruce. "I think it's really important for Scott to be really accepting of our relationship so the kids can feel good," she remarked.
Later in the episode, it could be seen that Kourtney was able to explain the situation to Penelope when she had some alone time with the young girl. She also explained that Travis also spoke to Penelope, telling her he "really wanted her there."
