The 'Somebody Like You' crooner is grateful that his booze dependency did not affect his self-expression as a musician, and credits his beloved wife Nicole Kidman for helping him to stay sober.

AceShowbiz - Keith Urban offers rare details about his recovery from alcohol addiction. The "Blue Ain't Your Color" singer opened up in a new interview that he felt lucky the issue had not defined his creativity in music.

Speaking about it to The Sunday Times, Keith divulged, "I had to find a different way to be in the world. I'm glad it didn't change anything about my music." He went on to dish, "I wrote plenty of hit songs while drunk. I wrote plenty sober. I feel lucky it hasn't defined my creativity."

The "Somebody Like You" singer, who had been battling alcoholism for years, then admitted that he managed to set himself straight with the support and encouragement he got from his wife, Nicole Kidman. He even gave credit to his other half in a ballad titled "Thank You" to honor her.

In the interview, Keith also revealed that he was actually allergic to booze. "Everyone does what they want to do to have a great time. I just realized I'm allergic to it," the Australian country singer explained, "Someone said, 'You have an allergy? What happens when you drink?' And I said, 'I break out in cuffs.' "

The seed of Keith's addiction problem was planted in his childhood. The 54-year-old singer grew up with an alcoholic father and saw the effects of being tangled up in alcoholism. That was why it was difficult for him to admit that he had the same problem. He shared, "My dad was an alcoholic, so I grew up in an alcoholic house and it took me a long time to believe I was wired the same."

On the reason why he rarely discussed the issue, the "Long Hot Summer" hitmaker claimed that he wanted his fans to enjoy themselves. "I've nothing against drugs or alcohol," he pointed out, "I don't talk a lot about it because I love my audience being able to just come and have a great time."

Keith has been happily married to Nicole for 15 years. Still going strong, the pair celebrated their 15-year-anniversary in June 2021. At the time, he posted an Instagram picture with a caption that read, "Happy anniversary babygirl !!!!!!! my life started when you said 'I do' 5475 days ago today."
