Regina King's Son Ian Alexander Jr. Died From Suicide Days After Making Alarming Tweets

The deejay, whom the actress shared with her record producer ex-husband Ian Alexander Sr., admitted days before his death that social media was not 'healthy' for him.

AceShowbiz - Regina King has unfortunately lost her only child. Ian Alexander Jr., who turned 26 on Wednesday, January 19, died by suicide days after making alarming posts on his Twitter account.

The Academy Award winner confirmed her son's death on Friday. "Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian," she said in a statement sent to PEOPLE. "He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you."

Ian took his own life a few days after he shared his last tweets. "You know that episode of SpongeBob where they go inside his brain and it's a bunch of mini spongebobs just losing their s**t.....yea that one really hits home," he wrote.

The deejay, whom Regina shared with her record producer ex-husband Ian Alexander Sr., also admitted that Instagram is not good for his mental health. "I don't think instagram is healthy for me," he penned in a separate post.

In the wake of the devastating news, many celebrities expressed their condolences to Regina and her family. "I am lifting and holding you up. LOVE you @ReginaKing and I am so sorry," Viola Davis tweeted, while Kid Cudi wrote, "My heart hurts for Regina King and her family. God please watch over them."

Missy Elliott noted in her own account, "PRAYERS for Regina King family & Ian Alexander Sr. family. Dear LORD give them STRENGTH during this time." Garcelle Beauvais added, "My heart breaks for you @ReginaKing Ian was sweet & kind."

Back in 2007, Regina gushed over her special relationship with Ian. "You don't know what unconditional love is. You may say you do, but if you don't have a child, you don't know what that is," she explained at the time. "When you experience it, it's the most fulfilling [thing] ever."
