The 'Jason Bourne' leading man is facing backlash as he stars in the commercial that suggests people who invest in digital currency are as visionary as the Wright brothers.

AceShowbiz - Matt Damon is getting roasted on social media for starring in a new advertisement for Crypto.com that suggests people who buy cryptocurrency are as brave and visionary as the Wright brothers. Many social media critics quickly dubbed the comparison in the commercial "cringe."

The ad aired during Sunday's (January 2) NFL games and is featured on the homepage of Crypto.com. In the video, the "Jason Bourne" actor says, "History is filled with 'almosts,' " as he strolls down a sci-fi-esque hallway.

"With those who almost adventured, who almost achieved, but ultimately for them it proved to be too much. Then, there are others, the ones who embrace the moment and commit," Matt continues. The Oscar-winning actor then shows images of a grizzled mountain climber, the Wright brothers aboard their prototype airplane and a couple kissing at a nightclub. At the end of the ad, he walks up to a window overlooking Mars. "Fortune favors the brave," he says before a Crypto.com logo appears on the screen.

Upon learning of the commercial, many unimpressed viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts. "These Matt Damon crypto commercials are cringe beyond belief," one Twitter user wrote.

"Are you going to put your life savings into the pretend computer dog money that you can't spend or are you a p***y?" one paraphrased Matt as saying. Another summarized, "You may be zoned out during commercials and not have noticed, but there's an ad with Matt Damon that likens trading cryptocurrency to climbing a mountain and being an astronaut."

A separate critic penned, "There isn't enough yuck in the world." Someone else chimed in, "I can just not stop laughing that Matt Damon's pitch for crypto is 'Be like a brave explorer, invest your life savings in crypto.' "

"This is the same pitch my buddy in 6th grade used to get me to dive from a railroad trestle into the river," another opined. One Twitter user criticized, "Saddest thing about Matt Damon's macho-baiting crypto pitch where the viewer must ACT NOW or he's a weak p***y is that this is a top 3 classic pitch all financial schemes have used to goad men into forking over their paltry savings." The said person added, "Nothing has changed in 150 years."
