AceShowbiz - Pele has given an update on his health issue. After being taken to hospital to undergo colon tumor chemotherapy, the soccer legend assured his fans that he's fine by sharing a photo of him smiling.

Taking to his Instagram account on Thursday, December 9, the 81-year-old former soccer player posted a picture of him smiling and pumping his fist into the air in his hospital bed. In the caption, he wrote, "Friends, since September 30th, when I left the hospital, you know that I have been having small chemotherapy sessions as part of my treatment."

"Today I'm at Albert Einstein doing the last session of 2021. I wanted to share this achievement with you," Pele added. The three-time World Cup winner went on to ask his 7.7 million followers, "After all, every little victory is a reason to celebrate, don't you think?"

Pele shared that he will be staying in the hospital for the next few days. "I'm going to take this chance to do a new battery of exams, so I'm going to stay here for a few days," he explained, before concluding his post, "Don't worry, I'm just getting ready for the holiday season!"

A few hours prior to Pele's post, his daughter Flavia Kurtz Nascimento shared a picture of her posing with her beaming dad. In the caption, she urged fans to "calm down." She explained, "My people!!! Calm down…Last visit of the year to Einstein…Keeping up the treatment, with control exams and chemo…"

Flavia went on to thank the medical staff as saying, "Thanks to this wonderful team… my father just EVOLVES!!!" She concluded her post, "Thank you very much for the affection, everyone… but Papi is Great."

Pele's other daughter, Kely Nascimento, re-posted her sister's image and provided a positive update of her own. "I appreciate all the affection we've received from all of you!!" she wrote. "This photo was taken 10 minutes ago on @hosp_einstein where my father finished a procedure that had been scheduled for months."

"My sister @flavia_kurtz_fisioterapiahe's petting him for me! In two or three days he returns home to enjoy Christmas," Kely shared. She went on to stress, "This was not a surprise. It was already scheduled and is part of the treatment. All my gratitude, always."

Pele was taken to the hospital on Wednesday, December 7. Following the chemo, the former Brazilian soccer player's medical team said in a statement that the star is "stable." The statement added, "The patient is expected to be released in the coming days." However, no specific details regarding the seriousness of his tumor were shared.

Pele, widely considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time, previously underwent surgery to remove the tumor in his right colon in early September. "Last Saturday I underwent surgery to remove a suspicious lesion in the right colon," he wrote in an Instagram post, which was originally in Portuguese. "The tumor was identified during the tests I mentioned last week."

"Fortunately, I'm used to celebrating great victories alongside you," Pele added. The soccer legend, who is said to have scored more than 1,000 times with Guinness World Records estimating the number is as high as 1,279 goals, concluded his post, "I will face this match with a smile on my face, a lot of optimism and joy for living surrounded by the love of my family and friends."
