The 'Happier' singer shares during a new interview that he almost killed 74-year-old music icon while filming the music video for their collaborative song 'Merry Christmas'.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran learned how dangerous filming could be in the hardest way. The "Happier" singer shared during a new interview that he almost killed Elton John while filming their "Merry Christmas" music video.

"We just shot a Christmas music video. Oh, mate. I almost killed him with a bell," Sheeran told Apple Music's Zane Lowe over the weekend about the filming with the 74-year-old music icon. He went on to say, "On the video, there's footage of... I'm dressed up as sort of sexy Santa Claus and I kick a present, but the present had a big metal bell on top of it."

The "A Team" singer added, "I showed him the footage of it today, because we slowed it down and the bell flew past his head and would've cracked him in the head." Further recalling the scary moment, he said, "Oh my God, the horror that went through my body when it was flying through the air."

Despite the near-fatal mishap, Ed claimed that they had fun during the shooting. "But, man, the music video is wild. We've parodied all the great British music videos that came at Christmas," the "Perfect" hitmaker shared.

Ed further detailed that they will split the profits from their Christmas single. The two musicians plan to donate the money to causes that have a special place in their hearts. Ed will be donating the profits through his Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation, which helps local kids under the age of 18 access instruments and/or music lessons. As for Elton, he would direct the money for his Elton John AIDS Foundation which aims to end the AIDS epidemic worldwide.

Ed and Elton's friendship grows stronger over the years. "I think people think I'm exaggerating and lying when I say he calls every day," Ed told Zane back in November. "He calls me every single morning. Even if it's like 10 seconds, every single morning he calls."

One of those calls actually led to them working together for the new Christmas song. "Elton rung me on Christmas Day to say Merry Christmas," Ed explained on Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2 in October. "He rung me on Christmas Day, and he said, 'Step Into Christmas' is No. 6 in the charts, and I'm 74, and I'm still having f**king chart hits, this is great! I want to do another Christmas song, will you do it with me?' "
