AceShowbiz - "The Crown" season 5 has cast an actor to play Martin Bashir. Prasanna Puwanarajah has been tapped to take the role of the disgraced BBC journalist, who infamously interviewed Princess Diana, in the upcoming season of the hit show. The Guardian is the first to report.

This won't be the first time for Prasanna to play Martin. The former University of Oxford-educated NHS doctor and writer previously portrayed the role opposite Naomi Watts when she played the late Princess of Wales in the film "Diana". It was, however, said that this time will be rather different from when Puwanarajah first played Martin.

Martin believed to be responsible for Diana's infamous Panorama interview that detailed her failing marriage and mental health struggles at the time. In the controversial people, the Princess of Wales mentioned that there were "three people" in her marriage, referring to Prince Charles' mistress and current wife, Camilla Parker Bowles.

Additionally, Martin caught heats after it was revealed that he used deceitful behavior to secure the controversial interview with Diana. The journalist allegedly forged documents to show to Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, in hopes to gain his trust and access to his sister.

Prior to this, it was reported that "The Crown" would devote an entire episode to the late royal's 1995 sit-down with Martin, despite her son Prince William's pleas for the chat never to be broadcast again. " 'The Crown' 's creators see the interview as the keystone moment in series five," a source told The Sun. "To the writers, the stormy marriage between Charles and Diana led up to her outpouring on Panorama, and the aftermath of that decision defined her final months."

"They are making a huge investment in that. 'The Crown' has a track record of delving into areas of the Royal Family's history they'd rather be left alone," the source added.

Season 5 of "The Crown" will star Elizabeth Debicki as Diana and Dominic West as Prince Charles. They will reportedly be joined by "The Kite Runner" star Khalid Abdalla, who is set to play Princess Diana's tragic boyfriend Dodi Fayed.
