The 'Dallas Buyers Club' actor says he will instead focus on supporting entrepreneurs, businesses and foundations despite him being a favorite to win the upcoming governor election.

AceShowbiz - Matthew McConaughey has finally made a decision on whether or not he will run for the office after months of toying with a campaign. The actor announced in a video shared on Sunday, November 28 that he will not run for Texas governor, at least for now.

"Over the past two years, I've been working on the answer to the question of how I can be most useful in this life going forward," the Oscar-winning actor said in a three-minute video posted on Instagram and Twitter. "Useful to myself, useful to my family and to the most amount of people."

"One category service I've been exploring is politics," he continued. He said he had seriously considered a run for Texas governor, but came out against it. The 52-year-old added, "As a simple kid born in the little town of Uvalde, Texas, it never occurred to me that I would one day be considered for political leadership. It's a humbling and inspiring path to ponder. It is also a path I'm choosing not to take at this moment."

Matthew will instead "continue to work and invest the bounty I have by supporting entrepreneurs, businesses and foundations that I believe are creating pathways for people to succeed in life. Organizations that have a mission to serve and build trust while also generating prosperity. That's the American dream."

His decision has left his fans, who were ready to vote for him, disappointed. "Ah man……I was hoping you'd say yes I'm running for the governor of Texas," one follower commented on the video. Another reacted, "Good decision but *wait for it* …be a lot cooler if you did."

"Damn!!!! Was so hoping you were going to run! You are JUST WHO politics, TEXAS, and the USA needs! Holding out hope for next run," a third wrote. Someone else said, "Sorry, you had my vote thanks for considering."

Others suggested that Matthew run for president in 2024. "McConaughey for President 2024," one supporter wrote. Another similarly said, "Wait a few years then go for President."

The "True Detective" star said in September that he considered running for office. "I'm measuring it," he said on "Set it Straight: Myths and Legends" podcast on Amazon. "Look, it's going to be in some capacity…I just, I'm more a folksy and philosopher-poet statesman than I am a, per se, definitive politician. So I go, well that's a reason not to, but then I go, no, that's exactly why you should. Because politics needs redefinition, but I'm measuring 'what is my category? What's my embassy?' "

Matthew's announcement follows reports that he was leading incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott and Beto O'Rourke as a hypothetical candidate in the polls for Texas governor.
