AceShowbiz - 20th Century Studios has revealed the official title of the new "Predator" movie. On Disney+ Day, Friday, November 12, the studio announced that the fifth installment in the film franchise is now called "Prey".

Along with the announcement, the logo and the first look of the prequel film have been unveiled. The logo takes the franchise back to its roots, with the movie's name written in the Predators' armor and claw marks all over it. The image, meanwhile, shows a female warrior in a battle mode with a silhouette of an alien hunter lurking behind her in the woods.

"An all-new entry in the @Predator franchise, 'Prey' is set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago and follows a female warrior," so the movie is described in a post shared on its official Instagram page.

The new installment, which was previously known as "Skulls", is billed as a prequel and follows Naru (Amber Midthunder), a skilled female warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator. It is set for release sometime in summer 2022.

"10 Cloverfield Lane" director Dan Trachtenberg serves as the helmer, with the script written by Patrick Aison, whose producer-writer credits include the series "Kingdom", "Jack Ryan" and "Treadstone". Jhane Myers is producing along with John Davis and John Fox.

"Prey" was first developed in 2018. It was initially kept under wraps before it was announced in November 2020. Midthunder was cast in the lead role in May this year. Filming wrapped on September 12 in Calgary.

The last "Predator" movie, "The Predator" (2018), was directed by Shane Black. It was a box office and critical disappointment, bringing in $160 million worldwide against its reported budget of $88 million. It was widely panned by critics, who, while mostly praised it for being funnier and gorier than previous installments, called it dull and chaotic.
