According to the 'Frida' actress, the 'Maleficent' star was terrified by 'a whole new cultural experience' when coming to visit Salma to help celebrate her 55th birthday.

AceShowbiz - Salma Hayek made her "Eternals" co-star Angelina Jolie smash her face into her birthday cake.

The two actresses became close while filming their Marvel blockbuster and celebrated Salma's 55th birthday eve in September (21) over dinner in Los Angeles because the "Frida" star didn't want a big celebration on the actual day.

"I was just tired. I just wanted to work and finish everything before I headed back to London," she tells "Live with Kelly and Ryan", explaining she told all her friends who were calling about birthday plans she didn't want to do a thing.

But her friends and family members had other ideas and "15 or 18 people showed up without invitations" at her California home.

Luckily, Salma's agent had sent over a birthday cake but she had to order food for the surprise visitors and Angelina was one of them.

"She showed up with Z (daughter Zahara) to bring me a very special gift, by the way, very thoughtful, very meaningful to me, and then she saw that there was kind of a party and she stayed."

However, Jolie wasn't prepared for what happened when her pal blew out the candles on her cake.

"For Angie, it was a whole new cultural experience," Salma laughed. "She was shocked that we do this thing in Mexico where you bite the cake. Mordita - it means to bite the cake."

"And all of a sudden everyone started screaming, 'Mordita.' She was sitting next to me like, 'What's happening, what's happening?' "

Eventually Angelina played along and shoved her friend's face into her birthday cake.

"She was a little nervous," Hayek added. "She felt she was going to get sued and cancelled for aggression. But then after she did it, she was ashamed because she found she enjoyed it - and her hands went deep in there (in the cake)."

And Salma's hoping she'll have a chance to return the favour for Angelina's birthday next year.

"She's nervous about it, I keep telling her, 'Don't worry, yours is coming up, and we're going to celebrate Mexico style,' " she quipped.
