Having raised Levi and Wyatt as a single parent, the 'All I Wanna Do' hitmaker opens up to TV host Hoda Kotb how her mother Bernice convinced her she was up to the task.

AceShowbiz - Singer Sheryl Crow has credited her mother for convincing her she was up to the task of adopting kids as a single parent. The "All I Wanna Do" hitmaker adopted sons Levi, now 11, and Wyatt, 14, and admits she always hoped to have children, one way or another.

"[I] just never didn't think I would have kids," she told U.S. TV host Hoda Kotb on her podcast "Making Space".

But the turning point came when her mother, Bernice, threw Sheryl a "life raft," telling her daughter, "You have a family around you who will stand at the altar with you at baptism and say, 'We are his community, or her community.' "

"The story I was telling myself limited what I thought I could have, until somebody stepped in and said, 'Wait a minute, your story doesn't have to look like your mom and dad's story,' " the Grammy winner explained. "Families look like all different things."

Meanwhile, she's happy she got all her own youthful antics out of the way before becoming a mum.

"I had the gift of getting a lot of things out of my system before I had my kids, or before I got my kids. So there wasn't anything that I felt like I was missing. If I stayed home and something was going on, I just didn't feel like I was missing anything, that I wanted to be anywhere else, and that's a gift," she added.

Back in 2020, Sheryl admitted that being a single parent "wouldn't have been [her] first choice." To Yahoo Entertainment, she continued explaining, "But to be perfectly honest, I feel like the way that my life has - I keep saying the way that it rolled out, but it really is true - the way things have happened for me have not been conventional."
