The 'Supernatural' alum, who is cast alongside Alec Baldwin in the western movie, posts a tribute to the late director of photography after an accidental shooting on set.

AceShowbiz - Jensen Ackles has broken his silence on Halyna Hutchins' death, three days after the gun accident on the set of "Rust" that also injured director Joel Souza. Making use of his Instagram account, the actor posted on Sunday, October 24 a touching tribute to the late cinematographer.

"I'm not even sure where to start," the "Supernatural" alum began in his note along with photos of Halyna riding a horse and posing with the cast on the set. "This has been a tragedy of epic proportions that we are all still processing."

Gushing about her work, he recalled their recent interaction, "Earlier last week I felt compelled to tell Halyna just how awesome I thought she was. I told her how incredible I thought her camera shots were and just how exciting it was to watch her and her team work. Truly. She laughed and said thank you and gave me a hug. I'll forever be thankful we had that moment. She had a spunk and passion that infected the entire crew from the top down."

"She was an inspiration," he continued of her, before sending his condolences, "My heart and prayers go out to Halyna's husband, son and the rest of her family. There just aren't enough words to express what an immense loss this is. She will be incredibly missed by all of us who knew and admired her."

Jensen also urged his fans and followers to donate to the AFI scholarship fund in Halyna's name and a GoFundMe for her family. "Danneel and I have donated to the AFI scholarship fund in her name and to the go fund me. If you are able, and feel compelled, here are the links for more information," he concluded his message.

Halyna passed away after she was accidentally shot on the set of "Rust" at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 21. She was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she was pronounced dead. The movie's director Joel was also taken to the hospital, but he has since been discharged.

Alec Baldwin, who fired the gun, has been questioned by police, but no charges have been filed. He was reportedly handed the gun by assistant director Dave Halls, who reportedly had a history of unsafe working practices when working on TV series "Into the Dark".

Meanwhile, after Halyna's tragic passing, a video of Jensen joking about being questioned over handling firearms went viral. In the clip, the 43-year-old star shared his response when being asked by an armorer whether he has an experience in handling weapons.

"They had me pick my gun, they were like, 'Alright, what gun would you like?' and I was like, 'I don't know,' and the armorer was like, 'Do you have gun experience?' " he said in the video reportedly taken days before the accidental shooting. "I was like, 'A little.' And she's like, 'Okay, well, this is how you load it, this is how we check it and make sure it's safe.' " He continued recalling, "I walk out and she's like, 'Just make sure you pull the hammer all the way back and aim at your target,' I was like 'All right, I got it.' "

For the record, Jensen spent years handling weapons on the set of "Supernatural". Still, his conversation with the armorer prompted criticism about how prop gun safety is dealt with on the set.
