The 'Bad Habits' singer reveals, when he was still a struggling musician, he used to take condiments from restaurant chain and got 'instant karma' for it.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran used to steal sauce from Nando's chicken restaurants before he made it big.

The "Shivers" singer tells the "Off Menu" podcast he's a huge fan of the South African restaurant chain's in-house sauce range and used to pocket bottles when waiting staff weren't around.

"When I was on the circuit, they didn't sell Nando's sauce in the supermarket," he explained. "The only way you could get it was to steal it."

"I remember bumping into my cousin straight afterwards - and it's the only thing I've ever stolen in my life. I was really shaky afterwards."

"He was like, 'Why are you so shaky?', and I was like, 'I've just stolen a bottle of Nando's sauce.' So Nando's, I'm sorry I took a bottle of sauce from Dalston (London) Nando's."

Although he was never caught taking the condiments, Ed believes he was dealt a blow by karma when the glass bottle smashed in his bag, over all of his touring equipment.

"This is how the universe got me back," he said. "I went on a tube to a gig, and the bottle had smashed in my bag all over my loop pedal, my equipment and everything."

"Instant karma. For like a year my loop station smelt of Nando's. It was like a constant reminder."

During his early career, Ed Sheeran also couch-surfed with celebrities. Jamie Foxx offered him a place to sleep and brought the then-struggling singer on stage at one of his shows. Courteney Cox invited him to stay in her beach house when he was working on his second album "X".
