The actor who rose to fame portraying Edward Cullen in the vampire romance films confesses that he came to the audition looking nothing like the character he was destined to play.

AceShowbiz - Robert Pattinson was shocked when he landed the role of "beautiful" Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" films, because he thought he looked terrible at the audition. The Brit admits he looked nothing like the character he was destined to play.

"When I turned up for the audition, I had done a job where I'd dyed my hair black, but I had an inch and a half of roots, and I had waxed my body," Pattinson tells Allure. "And then I had a few months where I'd been drinking beer all day, so I had this hairless, chubby body. I looked like a baby with a wig on."

But he landed the role and overnight became a hunk. "It's weird. I never was really up for the good-looking-guy roles, because I've always been quite awkward when meeting people," he adds. "My 'Harry Potter' role was a good-looking guy, and it was a shock that it was quite easy to get."

"After I did 'Twilight', [my friends said], 'Oh, you're posing all of the time,' and I'm like, 'What are you talking about? I'm just standing. And none of you thought I was good looking two years ago!' "

Back in 2008, Pattinson spilled that he was "literally embarrassed walking into the audition." To Vanity Fair, he shared, "I was I had no idea how to play Edward at all. I thought that even going into the audition was completely pointless, because they were just going to cast a model or something."

"I felt it was kind of arrogant of me to even go in," the 35-year-old actor went on to explain. "I was almost having a full-on panic attack before I went to the screen test."
