Richard Donner's wife Lauren Shuler Donner plans to celebrate the life and legacy of her recently-deceased husband in a memorial event this coming September.

AceShowbiz - Richard Donner's widow Lauren Shuler Donner is planning to hold a celebration of the filmmaker's life this September (21).

The "Lethal Weapon" and "Superman" director passed away on Monday (05Jul21), with Lauren telling Deadline that "he was very sick, so it was time for him to go."

Following news of his passing, tributes flooded in from Donner's Hollywood peers, including Steven Spielberg, Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Corey Feldman, and Zack Snyder, and Lauren admitted the reaction to his death is testament to the amazing man her husband was.

"The love for him coming out is amazing. That's who he was," she said. "He was larger than life and fun and generous, and everybody who knew him loved him, absolutely loved him. I have so many emails and texts - I will never be able to get through them. The outpouring of love. The good news is all this love came out when he was alive, just his attitude and his joie de vivre."

Lauren is now planning a memorial for later this year, when the Covid-19 restrictions currently in place will hopefully have been removed.

"I will have a memorial in September at Warner Bros when everybody is back from their vacations. I want to make sure everybody who wants to go can go," she said.

As producers, Richard Donner and his wife Lauren were the masterminds behind the popular "X-Men" franchise.
