The 'Frozen' actress reveals she and her podcast host husband had to attend therapy separately to 'get a handle on the annoyances' because of their frequent clashes.

AceShowbiz - Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard had solo therapy sessions so they had the space to vent their "annoyances" about each other.

The married couple - who are parents to Lincoln, eight, and six-year-old Delta - were "at each other's throats" at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. And in order to "get a handle" on their gripes with each other, they would take it in turns to see their therapist to let off steam.

Appearing on Tuesday's (29Jun21) episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", the "Frozen" star says, "At the beginning of the pandemic we were at each other's throats and then all the doors locked in our house."

"We had to stay inside and we were like 'woof! We need to get a handle on the annoyances.' (He) suggested that we're both so annoyed with each other because the reality is if you're living with one human being, I don't care if it's your partner, your husband, your wife or your roommate, you need to brush up on your toolbox because you will find that person annoying. Relationships take work."

Referring to their solo trips to the therapist, she adds, "And we did, and it's been great. When you have a third party moderating any disagreement, it's always the safer place."

The 40-year-old actress has previously hailed therapy for bringing "individuality" into their relationship.

She said earlier this year, "Therapy's been big for us during the pandemic. We both rely on it, my husband and I, for personal growth and ultimately to bring what we learn individually into the relationship."

While Dax explained why the couple is so open about their relationship struggles.

"We don't want anyone to think we met and it's been easy because if that's someone's expectation of a relationship and certainly a marriage, it's a bad expectation to have."
