AceShowbiz - The Duchess of Sussex's father is convinced Oprah Winfrey "played" his daughter and her husband, Prince Harry, in their controversial TV interview special.
Retired lighting director Thomas Markle hasn't spoken to his estranged daughter, Meghan Markle, since she married Harry over three years ago, but he has always been very outspoken about her every move, and is now speaking out about the couple's sit down with Oprah, during which the Sussexes suggested members of the royal family were racist, while discussing their decision to step down as working royals.
Markle feels Oprah took advantage of his daughter and son-in-law.
"Oprah Winfrey, I think, is playing Harry and Meghan," he tells Australia's "60 Minutes". "I think she is using them to build her network and build her new shows and I think she's taken advantage of a very weakened man [Harry] and has got him to say things that you just shouldn't be saying on television. She will disagree of course, and she may even sue me, I don't care. But the bottom line is she is working Harry."
Despite his estrangement from his daughter, Thomas remains hopeful he will be able to see his grandchildren, Archie and newborn Lilibet, one day and get a chance to hold them.
"My congratulations Harry and Meghan. I found out [about Lilibet's birth] after the fact and I have to deal with that and that's OK," he adds. "There's always disappointment here. Lili is perfect and the other thing that makes me happy is that there is a lot more Markle blood in the royal family. All I can say is that I hope eventually I get to see these grandchildren of mine. I'm a pretty good grandpa... I will be very disappointed if I don't get to hold my granddaughter."
