Unveiling the Oscar-winning actress uncanny transformation into Tammy Faye Bakker, the sneak-peek video shows how the evangelist's career and marriage face trials and tribulations due to fraud allegations.

AceShowbiz - Jessica Chastain is completely unrecognizable in the first trailer for "The Eyes of Tammy Faye". Unleashed on Wednesday, June 9, the video unveils the Academy Award-winning actress' jaw-dropping transformation into Tammy Faye Bakker, a singer and evangelist.

The trailer follows the title character as she introduces Andrew Garfield's Jim Bakker as her husband. Building their future together from scratch, the pair launch a puppet show series before gaining notoriety as televangelists.

But at the height of their success, the Bakkers face trials and tribulations in both their career and marriage due to fraud allegations. The trailer sees Tammy flirting with a guy on TV and seemingly falling into the seduction of another man.

The video also touches on Tammy's unconventional views regarding the LGBT community. "Faith isn't political," Chastain's character says to conservative activist and televangelist Jerry Falwell Sr., played by Vincent D'Onofrio.

Toward the end of the trailer, Tammy evolves to a completely different persona from the one seen early in the video. Rocking heavy eyeliner and blue eyeshadow, she says in a close-up shot, "This is who I am."

"The Eyes of Tammy Faye" is based on the 2000 documentary of the same name by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. Michael Showalter serves as director with the script written by Abe Sylvia. Chastain is producing along with Kelly Carmichael, Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane.

According to the official logline, the movie "is an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world's largest religious broadcasting network and theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn't long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire."

The movie is set to be released in the U.S. on September 17 by Searchlight Pictures.
