The president comes under fire for allegedly saying that 'this is a great day for' George because the number of unemployment drops, but that's not actually the case.

AceShowbiz - Donald Trump has once again drawn the ire of public after mentioning George Floyd during his speech about jobs. On Friday, June 5, the president declared to the press that the number of unemployment in the U.S. dropped slightly to 13.3%.

In his speech, Trump suggested that George must be happy in heaven now. "Hopefully, George is looking down right now and saying this is a great thing that's happening for our country," he said. "This is a great day for him, it's a great day for everybody. This is a great day for everybody. This is a great, great day in terms of equality."

Some news outlets, however, falsely reported that Trump suggested George must be happy in heaven because the number of unemployment dropped, while he actually mentioned the late 46-year-old African-American man when talking about the importance of equality in policing.

"Equal justice under the law must mean that every American receives equal treatment in every encounter with law enforcement regardless of race, color, gender or creed. They have to receive fair treatment from law enforcement," Trump said. "We can't let that happen." That's when he made the George reference.

Nevertheless, people soon came at the president for foolishly mentioning George in his speech about jobs, with one tweeting, "Utterly reprehensible to use George Floyd's memory to celebrate unemployment figures. Globally, people are grieving his death, there's so much pain. Trump has stoked the division and fuelled the hatred. He's morally bankrupt."

Another wrote in disbelief, "Imagine being so dense that you would suggest George Floyd was 'looking down and saying this is a great thing that's happening for our country' while peaceful protesters are being beaten and gassed because he was murdered."

"Just when you think Trump can't say anything more offensive, he comes out with these stomach churningly repulsive remarks about George Floyd 'looking down.' He is grotesque, revolting beyond measure," someone else added.

Former vice president Joe Biden also weighed in on Trump's mention of George in his speech, calling out the president as saying, "We're speaking of a man who was brutally killed by an act of needless violence... For the president to try to put any other words in the mouth of George Floyd, I frankly think is despicable."

He continued, "And the fact that he did so on the day when black unemployment rose, Hispanic unemployment rose, black youth unemployment skyrocketed, tells you everything you need to know about this man."
