AceShowbiz - Oprah Winfrey's sympathy for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery has gone beyond a message of condolences and a call for justice on social media. The former daytime talk show queen has quietly reached out to the mother of the slain young man to pay her respects.

According to TMZ, the TV host called Ahmad's mom Wanda Cooper-Jones on Friday, May 8, which would have been his 26th birthday. During the phone call, she offered condolences over Ahmad's murder and wished him a happy birthday.

Wanda tells the site she was in disbelief when she answered the phone to find Oprah on the other end. The media mogul expressed her hope that family gets justice and was glad that Ahmaud's murder suspects, Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael, have finally been arrested.

But that's not all. Wanda says Oprah is sending her something through the mail, but contents remain a mystery.

On the same day, Oprah and her family joined other celebrities who walked 2.23 miles in honor of Ahmaud. The distance represents the date Ahmaud was shot and killed while jogging in Georgia, which was on February 23.

Oprah's best friend Gayle King had also called Wanda and offered kind words Thursday, the grieving mom reveals. Additionally, she says that Rev. Jesse Jackson called and told her he wants to visit her and Ahmaud's family when it's safe to travel again.

Ahmaud was shot and killed while he was jogging along a road in Satilla Shores, a community near Brunswick, Georgia. Two armed men, Travis and his father Gregory, approached him in a pickup truck and confronted him. During the confrontation, Ahmaud was fatally shot by Travis.

The McMichaels told police that they thought Ahmaud was a suspect in a string of local burglaries. Travis and Gregory were only arrested two months later, after a video of the incident, which was filmed by William "Roddie" Bryan, from a vehicle following Ahmaud went viral, prompting a call for justice from public figures like Taylor Swift, LeBron James, Viola Davis, Ellen DeGeneres and many others.
