The 'Transformers' star joins Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and fellow actor Mario Lopez in passing out 600 meals to first responders at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

AceShowbiz - Mark Wahlberg knows how to appreciate his mother well. Celebrating National Nurses Day by kicking off National Nurses Week with voluntary work in Los Angeles, the Cade Yeager of "Transformers: The Last Knight" delivered a sweet speech about Alma Elaine Donnelly's determination to be a nurse.

Speaking outside of Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) on Wednesday, May 6, the 48-year-old actor said, "It's fitting that on this day, the start of Nurses Appreciation Week is my mom's birthday." He added, "My mom gave birth to 9 children. I don't know if you guys have ever seen the 'Wahlburgers' TV show but my mom always steals the show and she's doing that again today."

"It's her birthday after giving birth to 9 kids, she put herself through nursing school to work at the very same hospital where she gave birth to all of us," he continued. "I've always had a huge appreciation for what my mom did and for what people do in public service. I know not enough people in my community express that appreciation enough, but my appreciation for law enforcement, for first responders, firefighters is just astronomical."

On the particular day, the former rapper known as Marky Mark joined forces with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and fellow actor Mario Lopez to offer thanks to those in the front lines of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. They helped pass out 600 meals to and spend time with the first responders.

Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti has also expressed his appreciation to the nurses at CHLA in a touching speech. "I want to thank what you do every single day, it doesn't take COVID-19 for you to [give] outpouring love to those who need it most," he said. "I've brought my daughter here, this is my family hospital."

"My daughters come here to the emergency room, she comes here for her check up's and I know this is not just one of the finest hospitals, it's the finest hospital I've been involved in and that's because of the nurses and all the professionals," he went on sharing. "So let's give a round of applause to everyone who's devoting their lives to save our lives."
