In a new video, the Chic ringleader admits the covid-19 pandemic makes him scared because many people he knew have lost their lives to the deadly virus.

AceShowbiz - Nile Rodgers is struggling with grief and fear after losing several friends to the coronavirus.

The pandemic has hit the world of music hard, with country legend John Prine the latest star to lose his battle with the illness on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

In a video posted to Twitter, the Chic leader spoke to camera through a surgical mask as he went on a stroll through deserted streets and revealed that the deaths of those close to him after contracting the coronavirus has left him frightened.

"I was born into a world of artists and drug addicts and there've been lots of deaths around me," the "Le Freak" hitmaker captioned the video. "This is the only week that so many friends died of the same thing. #covid-19."

In the clip, the 67-year-old cancer survivor added, "I'm not prone to being afraid of things, but to have an invisible enemy like a virus, and to see so many of my friends, who have not only gotten sick, but a few who have actually passed away, is just incredible to me."

He also went on to describe how one of his "terrific friends," an unnamed major music industry player in his 20s, was "incredibly sick" with the virus, and might not have been diagnosed if he wasn't a pop "powerhouse." Nile went on to reveal his pal is "on the mend" but that "it wasn't an easy journey."

The star also described how bizarre he found it to walk along empty streets and not be able to come into social contact with anyone, but ended on a happier note. He explained that he recently FaceTimed his mother, who is suffering from Alzheimer's, and she was "thrilled." He explained she was confused by the modern technology and believed they were "on TV together."

Fountains of Wayne founder Adam Schlesinger, Arrows frontman Alan Merrill, country star Joe Diffie, and jazz musicians Bucky Pizzarelli and Wallace Roney are among those from the music world who have died since contracting the illness.
