In the social media post, the 'On the Floor' hitmaker notes that playing the late Mexican-American singer in the 1997 film was an experience she is going to to remember for the rest of her life.

AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lopez marked the 23rd anniversary of the release of her hit film "Selena" with a special video clip celebrating the singer she played in the biopic.

The 50-year-old star took to social media on Saturday, March 21 to share a video of herself reflecting on her time on set, and the importance of honouring the legacy of tragic late Mexican-American star Selena Quintanilla, whom she portrayed in the 1997 film.

"Join me today in #CelebratingSelena," the "On the Floor" singer wrote. "I can't believe it's been 23 years since this incredible movie came out and 25 years since her passing."

"Selena was such an inspiration to me and I was so lucky to be chosen to play her. As an artist, this movie truly was an experience I'm going to remember for the rest of my life. Please share your memories of Selena and the movie with me below."

The entertainer, known as the Queen of Tejano music, died aged 23 on March 31, 1995, when she was shot by the president of her fan club and manager of her boutiques, Yolanda Saldivar, in a Texas hotel room.

Remembering the star in the three-minute clip, Lopez said: "I just go right back to the beginning of the movie in the first day of shooting and really trying to find the essence of who she was.

"She was an artist and she was singing from the time she was nine years old, maybe younger," Lopez added. "Learning how she sang, all her mannerisms, how she danced, studying the tape of her became really important."

The rest of the video is a montage of film stills, scenes from Selena, clips of Lopez talking about the star, and more.
