Owens wrote on her account on March 14, "UPDATE to @AndrewGillum story: My source says Andrew was NOT fully naked but his 'friend' (gay male escort from 'Rent Men' website) was. Sex was suspected b/t the two bc there was blood & feces on the bed. Yes--police were wearing body cams to this footage will come out."
She added in another post, "Lastly--many reporters are innacurately reporting that Andrew returned to his own home, down the road, by himself. This is wrong." Instead, Owens claimed that "police officers escorted his home. Waiting for any journalist to call my bluff by requesting the body cam footage."
Gillum made headlines after it was reported that he was arrested on Friday, March 13 in Miami after the Miami Beach Fire Rescue workers received a call about a possible overdose at a hotel on West Avenue with two other men, Aldo Mejias and Travis Dyson. Police allegedly noted that one of them was overdosed on crystal meth as police found them semi-nude and disoriented.
According to the report, Dyson booked a room at the Mondrian South Beach hotel with Mejias' credit card. He checked into the room on Thursday at 4 P.M., and when Mejias arrived, he already found Dyson and Gillum in the hotel room. He called the authorities after Dyson appeared not to be able to breathe properly while Gillum allegedly threw up on the bed. Dyson's now in a stable condition at Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
After the news first broke, Gillum was quick to release a statement in which he denied using meth. The former Tallahassee mayor, who is married with three kids, explained, "I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends. While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines."
He added, "I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction this has caused our movement. I'm thankful to the incredible Miami Beach EMS team for their efforts. I will spend the next few weeks with my family and appreciate privacy during this time."
