Diplo Saddened by Shooting During His Sao Paulo Carnival Set

The Major Lazer member sends his love to 'tough country' Brazil after shooting occurred during the street party in what is believed to be an attempted theft, leaving several people injured.

AceShowbiz - Diplo's heart is breaking for what happened during his recent performance in Sao Paulo, Brazil. One day after gunshots were fired at a street party carnival as he executed one of his sets, the Major Lazer member sent a love message to his fans in the "tough country," voicing his sadness over the scary incident.

Taking to his Instagram account on Wednesday, February 26, the 41-year-old uploaded a series of photos and one video from the carnival. "I am very sad to know that people were hurt in a moment of joy and happiness like Carnival," he wrote in Portuguese. "It's been 20 years since I came to Brazil and it was the first time that I witnessed any type of violence. But we must not let this end the freedom brought by the spirit of Carnival."

The "Set Me Free" DJ went on to add in English, "This is a tough country.. It's bullet proof, maybe even invincible.. Its definitely blessed.." He continued with an explanation about what happened. "We were actually ready 15 minutes later to get on and do a show for everyone in Sao Paulo just as we made sure the medical teams were good..," he recounted. "But that's when thunder and lightning started to pour down as if Brazil started to cry. I will see you next year Sao Paulo because you know we love you."

Sia Furler's collaborator for "Elastic Heart" further noted in the comment section of his post that the video he uploaded showed "there was gunshot during the song and some brave security rushed to the side of the truck." He went on to admit, "This breaks my heart that someone was hurt during a party."

"All I can ask God for is that he can protect everyone when we are gathering to celebrate.. We want all our shows to be a safe place..," the musician, whose real name is Thomas Pentz, added. "I know that Brazil is considered dangerous from outsiders but I have been coming here for twenty years and have never seen this kind of violence violence until today.."

Diplo further explained what happened in the comment section of the post.

"People tell me that I'm lucky.. in the aftermath I know everyone is alive but I'm praying for them and I know it's not going to change the carnival spirit," he concluded.

Diplo was forced to flee the stage when shooting occurred during his performance on Tuesday afternoon, February 25. The DJ, who was on top of a moving truck at the time of the shooting, ducked for cover and was rushed to safety. The incident was reported to be an attempted theft, leaving a man and a woman injured.
