A video footage displays the 'Irresistible' singer being escorted offstage when a group of demonstrators caused a scene at the Barnes and Noble release event in New York City.

AceShowbiz - Jessica Simpson came under fire from animal rights activists on Tuesday, February, 04 as they interrupted a book signing in New York City to protest her penchant for wearing fur.

The singer and fashion designer has previously been photographed wearing animal fur, and as she promoted her new memoir, "Open Book", her past clothing choices came back to haunt her as a group of demonstrators caused a scene at her Barnes & Noble release event.

In video footage posted on TMZ, the protesters can be seen waving signs reading, "Stop wearing fur", and shouting, "Shame on you!" as Simpson prepared to give a speech.

She was ushered offstage as security officials quickly had the activists escorted out of the building, and returned moments later as her fans chanted her name in support.

It wasn't Simpson's only run-in with the disgruntled demonstrators - they also confronted the star as she left a Manhattan restaurant in the early hours of Wednesday, blasting her as an "animal abuser" and "murderer" as she made her way into a waiting car.

Simpson is the latest celebrity to be targeted by the group of animal rights protesters - the same people recently staged similar stunts at events featuring model Kate Upton, TV personality Chrissy Teigen, rapper Lil' Kim, and superstar Jennifer Lopez.
