The President of the United States calls the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to step down as 'senior' members of the royal family 'sad,' saying that this should not be happening to Queen Elizabeth.

AceShowbiz - President Donald Trump has shared his two cents in the latest British royal family drama. The 45th President of the United States weighs in on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's announcement to step back from the royal family during an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham.

Asked about Harry and Meghan's shocking decision, the 73-year-old replies, "I don't want to get into the whole thing but I find it - I just have such respect for the Queen." He adds, "I don't think this should be happening to her."

Empathizing with Queen Elizabeth, he also says, "I think it's sad, I do, I think it's sad." He goes on praising the queen as gushing, "She's a great woman." He continues as seen in a preview clip of the interview, "She's never made a mistake if you look. She's had, like, a flawless time."

President Trump's full interview with Ingraham airs Friday, January 10 at 10 P.M. (ET) on Fox News.

Harry and Meghan surprised everyone when they announced on Wednesday, January 8 that they would be stepping back from their roles as "senior" royals. "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution," so read a statement they posted on Instagram.

It continued, "We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment."

The couple also announced plans to split their time between the U.K. and North America, which the former actress had called home before marrying the prince in 2018. "This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity," they explained.

Following the shocking announcement, "The Queen has convened a meeting of all four royal households and 'tasked' them with coming up with a 'workable' future role for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex within 'days not weeks,' " according to The Daily Mail's royal correspondent Rebecca English.
