Julie Bowen, who plays Sarah's mother on the long-running ABC series, also gushes about the 29-year-old actress' 'flirty' and 'cute' text messages with the former 'The Bachelorette' star.

AceShowbiz - Wells Adams makes sure he gets the blessing to marry Sarah Hyland from the important people in her life. The season 12 contestant on "The Bachelorette" was unraveled recently to have asked permission to propose to his fiancee from her "Modern Family" mom, Julie Bowen.

When taking part in an Instagram livestream for The Skimm, Bowen was asked by a fan if she had met her on-screen daughter's future husband. To the surprise of many, the 49-year-old actress known as Claire Dunphy on the comedy series responded by stating, "Wells asked me my permission to marry her."

Back when Adams first dated Hyland in 2017, Bowen hadn't got a chance to meet the "Bachelor in Paradise" star in person. At the time, she spilled to Entertainment Tonight during an interview, "She just showed me pictures and the original sort of flirty texts that were very sweet."

"And there was nothing naked about them so … I'm a little old fashioned and I liked that," she elaborated. "I was like, 'Ooh I like this.' Because sometimes these days when somebody shows you their phone you're like, 'Ahhh!' … This was just normal and cute, and I liked it."

Adams and Hyland got engaged in July 2019 after he popped the question on the beach while they were on their Fiji getaway. Sharing with the world his sweet proposal moment, the 35-year-old reality star posted a 1-minute video on Instagram with a caption that featured lyrics from the Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors song, "I'll be Johnny, you be June. But forever."

Months later, to celebrate his second anniversary with the 29-year-old actress, the groom-to-be shared a sweet tribute on social media. "I knew I was gonna marry her the 1st night I met her," he began alongside intimate photo featuring the two of them. "But I guess how anniversaries work, it's when you decide to become boyfriend/girlfriend."

"Whatever, I lost that battle. You're my person and I can't wait to drop this day as our anniversary and make a new one with all our friends watching, while they judge our wedding and eat and drink for free...buncha deadbeats," he went on. "Happy anniversary @sarahhyland, I love you more. +1 anything you say."
