In addition to the special recognition for his decades-long career, the 'Coming to America' star is vying for the Best Actor prize, thanks to his portrayal of late Rudy Ray Moore in 'Dolemite Is My Name'.

AceShowbiz - Eddie Murphy will kick off 2020 in style by picking up the Lifetime Achievement honour at the upcoming Critics' Choice Awards.

The iconic funnyman, who is currently enjoying a comedy comeback, will be feted for his decades-long career, during which the "Coming to America" star has become the most commercially successful African-American actor in movie history, according to officials at the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the organisation behind the prizegiving.

Murphy is also nominated for the Best Actor accolade at the ceremony, thanks to his portrayal of late comedian Rudy Ray Moore in "Dolemite Is My Name".

The 25th annual Critics' Choice Awards will take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on 12 January (20).
