The 'Jungle Rules' rapper opens up that he had an encounter with black magic when taking his mother to her home country of Morocco to visit her relatives after his birthday.

AceShowbiz - French Montana was convinced he fell victim to witchcraft as he talked about his health scare in an interview with DJ Akademiks following his release from hospital. The 35-year-old rapper believed he was targeted by people using black magic during his visit to Africa after his birthday on November 9.

He took his mother to Morocco to visit her relatives whom she hadn't seen for more than 20 years. He stayed by her side during their visit because he was wary of the people there. "When you don't see nobody for 25 years you basically don't know the person, so I wanted to make sure that I left her in the right hands," he explained.

"All people see out there in Africa is money, that's why nobody make it out [sic]. And I know that's the root of all evil," he added. "I think I ate something bad. I think someone was trying to … you know … They don't got no guns over there, they fight with spirits and s**t like that."

"I remembered eating something bad and started hallucinating," Montana recalled. The interviewer looked perplexed and asked if it's food poisoning. "Yeah, but in they own way. They call it s'hur over there," the hip hop artist replied, referring to Moroccan voodoo practice.

While he believed black magic played a part in getting him ill, he also said he suffered from exhaustion for pushing himself too hard. He denied it had anything to do with drugs and instead claimed it was a combination of his international travels, birthday celebrations, and ambition to finish his new album and drop it before the year's end.

French Montana was rushed to hospital on November 21 with elevated heart rate and stomach pains. As he received medical treatments, doctors told him he could have died. He stayed in ICU for a week and then spend another week in hospital before finally being discharged. He's ordered to one-month bed rest while continuing his recovery at home.
