After showing off a dance routine with sister Julianne in New York City, the 'Dancing With the Stars' alum jokes that he 'might have popped a stitch or two' from recent appendicitis surgery.

AceShowbiz - Professional dancer Derek Hough had to "pull back" from his energetic performance at New York City's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, December 04 as he recovers from appendicitis surgery.

The former "Dancing With the Stars" personality underwent an emergency operation to remove his appendix on November 15, but that didn't stop him from honouring plans to show off a planned routine with his sister, Julianne Hough, at the Rockefeller Center celebration this week.

Joking about his return to the stage, Derek told breakfast show "Today", "I might have popped a stitch or two! It (the surgery) was like, two weeks ago... but it can't stop me, can't hold me down!"

"No, I was taking (it) a little bit easy, honestly," he confessed. "There was a lot more dancing involved, so I had to pull back a little bit, but we had a great time."

However, even dancer-turned-actress Julianne was surprised at how mobile her brother is so soon after his medical emergency.

"I was like, 'You were holding back? 'Cause you were awesome, dude!' " she shared.

The siblings were promoting their upcoming TV special, "Holidays with the Houghs", which will air in the U.S. on December 16.
