The 'Avengers: Endgame' actress will take on the lead role in the movie that is based on the successful 2015 U.S. Special Forces raid resulting in the death of a top ISIS commander.

AceShowbiz - Actress Zoe Saldana is preparing to help take down a top ISIS leader in a new thriller based on real-life events.

"The Avengers" star will lead the cast in "Sabaya" as a CIA agent whose friendship with a recently-escaped teenage ISIS sex slave, called a sabaya, provides authorities with the intelligence needed to pull off a successful U.S. Special Forces raid on the site of her captivity in Syria.

The 2015 mission resulted in the death of a top ISIS commander, as well as several of his troops, and is recognised as a crucial turning point in the downfall of the Islamic State.

"The Handmaid's Tale" director Reed Morano will take charge of the movie, based on a script by Oscar-winning "The Departed" writer William Monahan, reports Deadline.

In a statement, Saldana writes, "It is an honor to be a part of the telling of this story. This young woman's journey is one for the books, and I am beyond grateful we will get to immortalize it on the silver screen."

"(Sabaya is) a larger than life epic but it's also an intimate, raw portrait of a young girl's determination and the bond that forms between these two women," adds Morano.

"I've not seen such a mind-blowing adventure that is simultaneously so emotionally transcendent, from these perspectives before. I'm thrilled to be telling this powerful story with the incredible Bill (Monahan) and Zoe."

Further production details and a release date have yet to be announced.
