Michael Jackson's nephew Taj calls out the producers of 'The Apollo' documentary and the HBO chiefs for excluding the Jackson 5's career and legacy in the true-story TV movie.

AceShowbiz - Michael Jackson's nephew Taj Jackson has hit out at producers of "The Apollo" documentary for "erasing black music history" by brushing over The Jackson 5's career and legacy in the film.

The HBO documentary about the iconic New York venue premiered last week, but Taj was less than impressed to find his uncle's group had been "edited out" of the clip.

"How dare you erase black music history. Where is the Jackson 5? The group you helped launch on your stage. Black artists and celebs need to take note. This can happen to you too in the future. Not just my family, I'm so disappointed. Did @HBO @HBODocs make you edit them out," he tweeted.

The New York venue helped catapult the group to stardom when the band won its amateur night in 1967. One of Michael's last public performances was at the Apollo Theater, when he performed at a Democratic National Committee (DNC) fund-raiser for former U.S. President Bill Clinton in 2002.

Following his death in 2009, thousands of fans gathered at the performance space to mourn the "Billie Jean" star's passing.

The singer's estate and HBO have locked in a $100 million lawsuit since January, when the cable network aired the controversial, Emmy award-winning documentary "Leaving Neverland", which detailed alleged child sex-abuse claims against the late singer.

They have denied the allegations.
