Citing his upbringing as the reason why he struggles, the rapper says in a new interview, 'My mother never send me to school and kiss me on the cheek or kiss me goodnight.'

AceShowbiz - Wale is getting real about fatherhood. During an interview with Ebro Darden to promote his latest album "Wow... That's Crazy", the rapper admits he still finds it hard to emotionally connect to his daughter Zyla Moon, citing his upbringing as the reason for it.
When asked whether he has difficulties in expressing his emotions, Wale answers, "I never really talk about this with my daughter--but we talk about our kids all the time, personally. My baby mother is an amazing mother. But me, I struggle sometimes. And I didn't know this was going to happen. When you have kids, you don't really even know your true self for real, especially if you have a daughter. I didn't know I was going to struggle connecting emotionally to a baby girl."
Wale goes on saying how he has having trouble to express his love to Zyla because he wasn't "raised like that. I never was like 'ga ga goo goo' and all that stuff. It's love but how I do it. But the feeling is there." He then recalls his childhood, "My mother never send me to school and kiss me on the cheek or kiss me goodnight. It's really just a fear but also, we love our parents and we respect them but it's more like a 'did you sweep the floor before I come home from work?' 'You ready for school tomorrow?' "
Despite his parents' treatment to him, Wale assures that he doesn't bear any ill feelings towards them. He continues, "I'm trying to learn how to do it but I don't want to be fake because I don't want to give my daughter fake energy. I just vibe with her different."
Zyla Moon is the daughter that Wale shares with his ex-girlfriend Claudia Alexis Jourdan. The former couple welcomed the little girl on July 22, 2016.
