The 'Dynasty' actress has passed away at the age of 84, and the heads of the Tony Awards have joined the 'Selma' director and the 'Grey's Anatomy' actress in remembrance of the late icon.

The actress lost her battle with cancer, aged 84, and the stars have started offering up their thoughts and prayers, with director DuVernay crediting her for blazing a path for other African-Americans to follow.

"An icon. One of the all-time greats. She blazed trails through dense forests and elegantly left diamonds along the path for the rest of us to follow," the filmmaker tweeted, while actress and choreographer Allen added: "You taught us so much".

Carroll made history by becoming the first black woman to win a Best Actress Tony Award, while also leading groundbreaking 1960s TV series "Julia".

Bosses of the Tony Awards have also offered up a tribute to the late actress, stating: "We are sad to say goodbye to a true icon, Diahann Carroll. The first African-American Tony winner in a leading role, winning for her performance in 'No Strings' in 1962".
