A new 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' movie is reportedly in the works at Legendary Pictures with Fede Alvarez ('Evil Dead, Don't Breathe') being set to produce.

AceShowbiz - Leatherface will be revving his gear once again in a new "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movie. A sequel based on Tobe Hooper's 1974 slasher film is reportedly in development at Legendary Entertainment/Legendary Pictures.

According to Bloody Disgusting, after the movie rights turned back over from Lionsgate to Kim Henkel, writer and producer of the original movie, Legendary has sealed the deal and currently owns the rights to the property. The studio has now planned a new sequel, with Fede Alvarez ("Evil Dead", "Don't Breathe") being set to produce for Legendary and Henkel.

Alvarez is not expected to direct the upcoming movie though, as he's reportedly seeking a filmmaker to tackle the helming duty. The site additionally claims that the upcoming movie will be a direct sequel to Hooper's 1974 film, much in the vein of "Halloween (2018)".

Marilyn Burns, who played the surviving Hardesty girl Sally, passed away in 2014, so it remains to be seen how the movie will continue the story without her. The upcoming movie, however, could just focus on the Sawyer family, who is directly related to the serial killer.

"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise spanned four sequels, a remake with the same title which was released in 2003 with Marcus Nispel as director, as several prequels. The last "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movie, a prequel called "Leatherface", was released by Lionsgate in 2017.

Leatherface, which was co-created by original writer Henkel and director of the original movie Hooper, has been portrayed by different actors. Gunnar Hansen brought the character to life for the first time in the 1974 film, with Tom Morga, Bill Johnson, R. A. Mihailoff, Robert Jacks, Andrew Bryniarski, Dan Yeager and Sam Strike playing the masked killer in subsequent installments.

As of now, there is no word on who will star in the new sequel, or if any of actors in the previous movies will return.
