Informing fans that he will undergo surgery to remove the tumor on September 12, the former 'All My Children' star claims he is doing his utmost to remain 'optimistic' amid his health battle.

AceShowbiz - Former "All My Children" star Cameron Mathison has been diagnosed with kidney cancer.

The 50-year-old actor, best known for starring as Ryan Lavery on the soap opera from 1998 to 2011, shared the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, September 10.

Alongside a picture of himself with his wife Vanessa and their children, Lucas, 16 and Leila, 13, Cameron told his followers that after having an MRI a month ago, doctors round a tumour on his right kidney.

"It's consistent with Renal Cell Carcinoma ... or kidney cancer," he explained. "The good news is that it hasn't spread to any other organs. They say my healthy lifestyle and diet has no doubt helped keep it from growing and spreading to other areas, as doctors think it's been growing in me for minimum 10 years."

Adding that he's "extremely lucky" the tumour was found early, Cameron told his fans he's scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday.

"My surgery is scheduled on September 12th, I was hoping to receive positive thoughts, prayers, or whatever you feel comfortable with, on 9/12 (my surgery is at 1pm PST)," he wrote.

Cameron concluded his post by telling fans he's doing his utmost to remain "optimistic" during the health battle.
