Teasing the end of a journey, the sneak peek that was debuted at Disney's D23 Expo also pays tribute to previous 'Star Wars' films and offers a glimpse of Rey and Kylo Ren's epic duel.

AceShowbiz - Here's a new look at "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" before the movie arrives later this year. Debuted at Disney's D23 Expo over the weekend, the special look has officially been made available online for those who didn't get to attend the presentation.

The first half of the video pays tribute to the older generations of the franchise, with footage from previous "Star Wars" movies. It goes on sharing new footage from the upcoming installment, with the voice of the Emperor saying, "It nears it's end."

The trio, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac), is seen approaching a bustling desert city. There's a shot of General Leia (Carrie Fisher) using unused footage from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and a massive fleet of Star Destroyers.

Finn is seen in a cockpit with a new character, Jannah (Naomi Ackie). Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) are seen dueling on a what looks like a spaceship. But a scene that has created a lot of talks on the Internet is the one showing Rey wearing a cloak and wielding a double-sided lightsaber.

Many have since speculated that the last scene could hint at Rey's turn to the dark side. Should this be true, this could be the work of Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), who is confirmed to return in "The Rise of Skywalker". Palpatine is known for its ability to create life from the Force and it's highly implied in "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" (2005) that he created Anakin.

Meanwhile, at the expo, Keri Russell shared new details about her new character Zorri Bliss. "She has a little bit of a checkered past and maybe some questionable morals, but really she's an old friend of Poe's," she teased, hinting that Zorri is a former love interest of Poe. "I think the entrance of Zorri is there to describe more of who he was in an intimate way and familiar way."

Mark Hamill, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd and Billy Dee Williams also star in the movie. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the third and final film in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy will hit theaters across the nation on December 20.
