Netflix launches The Poussey Washington Fund in support of non-profit advocacy groups working to protect immigrants' rights, to end mass incarceration and for criminal justice reform.

AceShowbiz - Bosses at Netflix show "Orange Is the New Black" are set to honour popular Season 4 character Poussey Washington by supporting non-profit advocacy groups working to end mass incarceration.

The streaming giant is launching The Poussey Washington Fund in honour of actress Samira Wiley's character, who was tragically killed by a prison guard in Season 4.

According to editors at CNN, the initiative, which coincides with the debut of show's seventh and final season on the streaming channel on Friday (July 26), will support the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, Women's Prison Association and other non-profit advocacy groups that work for criminal justice reform, to protect immigrants' rights, and end mass incarceration - as well as supporting the many women who have been affected by it.

The campaign will also parallel one of the season's storylines in which Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson (Danielle Brooks) tries to honour her best friend Poussey by offering micro-loans to female inmates upon their release.

"Through the Poussey Washington Fund, our characters can live on and continue to make an impact after the show has come to an end," series creator Jenji Kohan said in a statement to CNN. "Taystee recognised an opportunity to make a difference for her fellow inmates, and we saw no reason why we couldn't launch our own initiative to have an effect in the real world."

Netflix announced the end of the Emmy-winning series on Twitter last October (18), with its stars, including; Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Uzo Aduba, and Laverne Cox, appearing together in a promo clip.

"Season seven, you will not be disappointed. It is a season you will not forget," said Aduba.
