Plagued with a series of permit and financial letdowns, organizers for the 50th anniversary festival turns to the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia to salvage the troubled music event.

AceShowbiz - The Woodstock anniversary festival is heading to Maryland.

Organisers have moved the Woodstock 50 celebration to the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia following a series of permit and financial letdowns.

The new site, which is almost five hours from the original Woodstock site in Bethel, New York, has now been booked for 16-18 August - the same weekend of the original Woodstock in 1969.

As of press time, Dead & Company, Jay-Z and Imagine Dragons were among the headliners of Woodstock 50, but it's not clear if they will still be performing now the event has moved out of New York.

Meanwhile, reports suggest the festival will be renamed Woodstock 50 Washington.

The news serves as a lifeline for Michael Lang and his fellow Woodstock promoters, who lost the festival's original investor, Dentsu Aegis, back in May. Permits for Watkins Glen speedway and Vernon Downs in New York were pulled over the summer leaving the organisers without a home.
