Admitting she regretted responding to some of the mean remarks she received, the 'Modern Family' actress further explains why she now chooses to react to the positive comments.

AceShowbiz - Ariel Winter regrets responding to social media trolls, admitting she's now trying to "bury the negative" by only replying to the nice messages she receives.

The 21-year-old actress, most famous for her role as Alex Dunphy in hit U.S. TV show "Modern Family", has had her fair share of criticism from cruel users on sites such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. But while Ariel has hit back in the past, she told Us Weekly in an interview on Sunday, July 21 that she regrets engaging with the mean remarks she's received from trolls.

"I try to not respond," she mused. "I wanted to respond positively to people for a long time because I do feel that if you are sitting and sending somebody that message, there must be something you're not getting in your life, if you're gonna sit on your computer and send somebody that. I have had those moments where I've responded and I have regretted to responding to some of them, not all, but some I have regretted," she added.

"I've been like, 'This is stupid. It's unnecessary.' I do know... I think as everybody knows, when somebody is posting that comment they want an argument, you know, they want you to respond."

It was actually a fan who pointed out that Ariel comments more on negative remarks she receives than positive ones. And now the newly-redheaded screen star has adopted a new outlook in a bid to make a change to the social media troll culture.

"I think about the positive comments way more and it affects me way more," she said. "As a society we do comment more on the negative and that comment really hit me and so now I'm really trying to follow that of like, doing what I actually feel, which is to be thankful for the support and actually show that and kind of try and bury the negative."
