Talking about the chance in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series' leading lady reveals that scheduling conflicts prompted co-star David Harewood to step behind the lens first.

AceShowbiz - Melissa Benoist will fulfill her dream of stepping behind the camera to direct an episode of "Supergirl".

The star, who has longed to sit in the director's chair, will finally be given the opportunity during production of the hit show's fifth season.

Benoist, who will direct episode 17, expressed her excitement to Entertainment Weekly, revealing scheduling conflicts meant her co-star David Harewood was given a shot at directing the series first.

"I've been wanting to direct since Season 3, but couldn't last year because of scheduling conflicts, so David Harewood did it first," she told the publication. "I just felt really drawn to it for a couple of seasons now, just because you know the show so well, and you get to know the character, and the world, and the tone of the show so well that you can't help but envision certain scenes in a certain way. I want to play with that."

The 30-year-old also noted she has been learning from the directors she has worked with on "Supergirl" in preparation.

"These shows are so massive that it's not like directing any other show on TV, I would imagine, and everyone has said as much to me. I'm literally trying to be a sponge, and I will learn something new every single day I'm shadowing," she added.

The episode will air in the spring of 2020, while season 5 is set to kick off in October (2019).
