Responding to some negative reactions following the release of the movie poster, director Tim Miller says 'closet misogynist' is scared of Davis' character because 'she's tough and strong but very feminine.'

AceShowbiz - "Terminator: Dark Fate" director Tim Miller has very strong words to say to online trolls who hate Mackenzie Davis' character Grace. Following the movie poster's debut earlier this year, some Internet users slammed the soldier-assassin human-machine hybrid played by the Canadian actress, but the filmmaker is unfazed by those sexist criticisms.
"If you're at all enlightened, she'll play like gangbusters," he explains in an interview with Variety how people would react differently to Davis' character. "If you're a closet misogynist, she'll scare the f**k out of you, because she's tough and strong but very feminine. We did not trade certain gender traits for others; she's just very strong, and that frightens some dudes. You can see online the responses to some of the early s**t that's out there, trolls on the internet. I don't give a f**k."
On how they came up with the idea of bringing the character Grace, who feels like something new to the franchise, Miller shares, "... the 'Terminator' films tend to have a trinity of main characters. One of those is the protector, the Kyle Reese character [portrayed by Michael Biehn in the original, Jai Courtney and Anton Yelchin in sequels]."
"Joe [Abercrombie] came out with this idea that a new protector from the future is a machine fighter," he goes on dishing. "It's a painful life, and they're scarred and take a lot of drugs to combat the pain of what's been done to them. They don't live a long time. It's a very sacrificial role; they risk death to save others."
He continues, "And from the very first suggestion it was always a woman. We had to look for someone who has the physicality, but I'm very sensitive to actors. I didn't just want a woman who could physically fit the role but emotionally as well. Mackenzie really wanted to do it; she came after the role. She worked harder than anybody."
During the interview, Miller also talks a bit about "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie, in which he serves as executive producer. The movie has undergone redesign following backlash over the design of the titular character. "It was exactly the right way to handle that. The fans have a voice in this too. There's a right way to listen," he says of the design to push back the movie's release to redesign the main character. He claims that he has seen the character redesign and believes that "the fans will be pleased."
"Terminator: Dark Fate" brings back Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800. Besides Davis, Natalia Reyes, Diego Boneta and Gabriel Luna join the cast in new roles. The movie is due to open in theaters across the nation on November 1.
