AceShowbiz - Comedian Tracy Morgan has angered sports fans after poking fun of his fatal 2014 car crash during an awkward opening monologue at the 2019 ESPY Awards on Wednesday (July 10).
The funnyman hosted the annual American sports industry prizegiving and kicked off the evening with what viewers called "excruciatingly awful" material, in which he joked about the massive payout he received following the incident.
Morgan was a passenger in a limousine that was hit by a Walmart truck. His friend and collaborator, 62-year-old comedian James McNair, was killed in the crash and Morgan, who was left with serious injuries, received a massive pay out from executives at the chain store.
On Wednesday night he implied he is looking to get into another accident to reap the financial benefits.
Social media users were quick to point out the former "Saturday Night Live" star's quip was in poor taste, with one tweet reading: "Not funny joking about your accident someone died in."
The 50-year-old has joked about the accident in the past, telling fans at Broadway comedy club Carolines last month (June 2019), "It could have been worse - I could have been hit by a Bob's Discount Furniture (budget store) truck!"
