AceShowbiz - The recently-announced third "The Walking Dead" spin-off begins to shape up. The new show has tapped three newcomers to lead the upcoming zombie apocalypse drama.

Variety reports that Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu and Hal Cumpston have been cast on the new series which is said to be centering on two female protagonists. While Alexa will take on the role of the first lead female character, they have yet to cast for the second one.

AMC has yet to reveal the details about the three characters, but sources claim that Alexa, whose credits include "Madam Secretary", "How To Get Away With Murder", "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Unfiltered: Dark Web" among others, will be playing a good-natured rule breaker who lives for today. She's also described as likable and funny on the outside but sad on the inside.

Meanwhile, Nicolas' character is reportedly someone who is small for his age, but he's friendly and an old soul. Additionally, he has a black belt in karate. Prior to this, Nicolas lent his voice to animated shows including "The Amazing World of Gumball", "Sofia the First", "Future-Worm!" and "Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures".

As for Hal, he is set to play someone big for his age. His character is described as a shy loner that scares some kids, but he hates the fact that he scares people. Hal previously starred in Australian coming of age comedy "Bilched", which he wrote and produced.

AMC states that the new spin-off will focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse. Co-created by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of "The Walking Dead" universe, the planned show will be run by Matt Negrete, who has been attched as a writer and producer on "The Walking Dead" for the past five seasons.

Production on the 10-episode of the yet-untitled series is slated this summer in Virginia. The series aims for a 2020 premiere date.
