Just weeks after Naomi Watts assured fans wouldn't be let down by the upcoming projects, George R. R. Martin claims that the show will shed some light on the history of the fantasy drama.

AceShowbiz - The forthcoming "Game of Thrones" prequel series will shed some light on the history of the fantasy drama's Stark family and the White Walkers, according to franchise creator George R. R. Martin.

The upcoming series, starring Naomi Watts, was previously only revealed to be set roughly 5,000 years before the events of "Game of Thrones", which recently came to an end after eight seasons.

Now author Martin has teased fans by sharing a few details about the new show.

"The Starks will definitely be there," he told Entertainment Weekly. "Obviously the White Walkers are here - or as they're called in my books, 'The Others' - and that will be an aspect of it. There are things like direwolves and mammoths."

Martin, who co-created the prequel pilot and serves as an executive producer alongside showrunner Jane Goldman, goes on to explain the old world will feature 100 "petty kingdoms", not just the seven featured in the Westeros of Game of Thrones, setting the scene for plenty of drama.

His comments emerge weeks after Watts insisted viewers "won't be let down" by the new project, which is already in production in Northern Ireland.

"It's a great team of people they've put together," she told The Associated Press last month (June 2019).

"It makes me very excited, goosebumps all over," she added of her involvement in the series. "It is intimidating. It's very exciting."
