Hailing from Warner Bros. Animation and Amblin Television, half-hour series 'Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai' has also released an official teaser image following the announcement.

AceShowbiz - It's truly happening! WarnerMedia has announced that it has ordered an animated Gremlins prequel series to series. Titled "Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai", the series is set to have 10 episodes.

The half-hour animated series is scheduled to be heading to Warner's yet-unnamed streaming service. Hailing from Warner Bros. Animation and Amblin Television, "Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai" has released an official teaser image following the announcement. The image doesn't really offer much besides a look at the back of the titular character.

"In the animated television adaptation, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo," reads the official premise. "Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins."

Tze Chun ("Gotham") writes the new series while Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey and Sam Register serve as executive producers. Chun and Brendan Hay are attached as co-executive producers with Dan Krall as supervising producer.

"Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai" marks the latest series to air on WarnerMedia's forthcoming streaming service, which is set to launch in beta later this year. It will join Kaley Cuoco's thriller "The Flight Attendant", Paul Feig's comedic anthology "Love Life", Ansel Egort's "Tokyo Vice", "Dune: The Sisterhood", "Made for Love" and limited series "Station Eleven".

"The Flight Attendant" is an adaptation of Chris Bohjalian's bestselling 2018 novel. It will star Cuoco as Cassandra Bowden, who has to turn detective when she wakes up next to a dead body in a Dubai hotel bed and tries to piece together the mystery of the man's death.
