Seven months after making their red carpet debut as a couple at the 66th Annual BMI Country Awards, the 'For Her' singer pops the question to the former finalist of 'The Bachelor'.

AceShowbiz - Country star Chris Lane is heading to the altar after proposing to his girlfriend of less than a year.

The musician and Lauren Bushnell, a former finalist on U.S. dating show "The Bachelor", had been friends for several years before he asked her to play his love interest in the video for his song "I Don't Know About You" last autumn (2018), and they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 66th Annual BMI Country Awards in Nashville, Tennessee in November.

On Sunday, June 16, Chris asked Lauren to be his wife during a backyard barbecue at her family home in Oregon - and she said yes as she slipped on a 3.5 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring.

The singer wasn't sure about popping the question to Lauren on Father's Day, but was encouraged to do so by her dad, Dave, who Chris had previously asked for his daughter's hand in marriage.

He ended up playing a song he had written especially for Lauren, titled "Big Big Plans", as the lead up to the special moment, which occurred right after he sang the line, "Right now we're back in her hometown/and I'm down on one knee."

"Even though I felt pretty confident I was going to get the 'Yes,' I've never been that nervous," he confessed to People.com.

"When I got to the third verse of the song and knew it was time, I pretty much blacked out. The next thing I knew, she said 'yes' and the nerves just lifted! It's an explosion of excitement, pure joy, and love."

His bride-to-be gushed of the romantic gesture, "I lost it. It was the happiest moment of my life!"

However, it didn't all go quite to plan, as Chris was left to deal with a rather smelly situation seconds before he popped the big question.

"As I was about to propose... I stepped in fresh dog poop with my bare feet," the singer laughed. "Not at all how I planned it out in my head!"

The news emerges two months after Chris revealed he had marriage on his mind as he and Lauren walked the red carpet at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas in April.

Asked if wedding bells were in their future, he told news show Entertainment Tonight, "You know what? I'm working on it."

The engagement is Lauren's second - she found fame on "The Bachelor" in 2016, when Ben Higgins proposed to her at the end of season 20. The romance didn't work out and they split in 2017.
