Making an appearance on 'The Talk', the actor portraying Commander Lawrence on the TV series explains that the birthday bash 'seems to sort of dash all of the iconic costume's significance.'

AceShowbiz - "The Handmaid's Tale star Bradley Whitford wasn't impressed by Kylie Jenner's recent party themed around the TV show, labelling the bash "a little tacky."

The reality TV star threw the event as one of a series of celebrations for her close friend Anastasia Karanikolaou's 22nd birthday. For the occasion, Kylie decked out her home with crimson decorations, and provided guests with the iconic red dresses and white winged bonnets worn by handmaids in the programme.

In a video showing off the bash on her social media pages, Kylie wrote, "You know 'The Handmaid's Tale' is my favourite show ever...so for Stassi's birthday... welcome to Gilead."

Kylie quickly attracted backlash from many of her followers for turning the programme, based on Margaret Atwood's tale of a totalitarian society which treats women as property of the state, into a party theme.

And Bradley, who stars as Commander Lawrence in the TV series, had his say as he appeared on U.S. chat show "The Talk" on Tuesday, June 11.

"Seems a little tacky," he mused. "That costume is so kind of iconic, and it's interesting how it's changed from initially a sort of symbol of oppression - to now, as the show is moving ahead to a symbol of resistance. So, yeah, cocktail party seems to sort of dash all that significance."
